Why we run
Race for the Kids, Vancouver’s largest family fun run, has helped improve the lives of countless kids since it started in 1986. By coming together each year to take small steps in support of childhood cancer and mental health, supporters have helped make giant strides in care possible.
We’re incredibly proud of the distance we’ve come, but we’re not done. Too many children aren’t getting the specialized care they need for mental health conditions. Every year, new kids and families will learn they have cancer—and even after enduring the unimaginable, many still face a life of unknowns.
When it comes to the race to improve the health of kids, there is no finish line. With your support in 2020, we will continue to move forward in our quest to transform care for cancer and mental health conditions.
This is why we run.
- Each year, over 125 new kids in BC are diagnosed with cancer.
- 84,000 kids and teens in BC are affected by mental illness—but only 30 per cent receive specialized care they need.
